M&G, the international savings and investments business, has made two US-based appointments this week to develop the firm’s equity investment and research capabilities and to offer new investment strategies for clients. Jeffrey Lin and Thomas Lee are joining as thematic equity investment portfolion managers. They have 32 and 25 years respectively of experience in the technology industry as well as in investing in technology-related thematic strategies, the firm said in a statement. They are joining M&G from TCW Group where they ran investment strategies including AI, next generation mobility and entertainment technology. Lin is joining as head of thematic equities and will report to Fabiana Fedeli, CIO equity, multi asset and sustainability while Lee is joining as deputy head of thematic equities, the firm continued. With these appointments, M&G plans to expand its client offering of thematic strategies and add to the technology expertise of the Investment team. The new strategies will be based on a long-term approach, fundamental research and stock picking, which is aligned to the existing investment process within the M&G’s equity division, the firm said. Jack Daniels, chief investment officer at M&G, said: “One of our priorities is to further internationalize our investment capabilities through broadening our investment strategies and expanding our range of thematic investment propositions.” “With the growth in areas such as AI and Big Data, there are huge opportunities to support the changing needs of our clients and to provide innovative solutions into how we invest their assets,” he added. Fabiana Fedeli, chief investment officer of equity, multi asset and sustainability at M&G, added: “We see great value in thematic investing, particularly in technology-related areas as it continues to play a pivotal role in our lives over the longer term.” “In addition, from a near-term perspective, the recent market rotation away from technology stocks offers attractive entry point opportunities. With Jeffrey and Thomas’ appointments, and with the support of our wider equities capabilities, our new thematic equity team has the potential to drive change both for our clients and in our own investment processes,” Fedeli said.
